On "Rick's Roost" on the way to the Flank Trail there is a good view of the mountains on the other side of the valley

One of the viewpoints on the Flank Trail (actually the Sproatt-Rainbow Flank Trail) where you can see both Blackcomb (left) and Whistler (right)

If you look further north you can see Green Lake with the Armchair and Wedge Mountain above. This is also a take-off point for hang-gliders, hence the wind sock

Kevin goes down to Rainbow Creek to wash the dust off that he accumulated during an encounter with the environment while descending the 27 switchbacks. The environmental encounter was captured on video and will be available to watch someday.

That finger of rock sticking up is called the Black Tusk. It's a volcanic plug, geologically speaking.

The portion of the Flank Trail we rode ended at Function Junction, so we were able to see Whistler Creekside on the opposite side of the valley

On the long descent to Function Junction we passed this little creek. You can't tell from this photo, but it was incredibly dark in the forest here because of the density of the trees. If you set your digital camera correctly, you can take pictures in near darkness!

After we finished the Flank Trail, we stopped at Rainbow Park on Alta Lake for a break. Steve doffed shoes and socks and can report that the water was warm but the bottom was rocky. That's Blackcomb in the background

Because of the helmet camera, it was a major operation to take off the helmet, so it stayed on.

Rainbow Park is popular on a warm sunny day!

The surrouding mountains seem so close you think you could almost reach out and touch them!
