This year we'll be building a bypass for the famous "Descent of Death" on the Conejo Crest Trail. We'll meet at Triunfo Community Park in Thousand Oaks and hike in 1.5 miles to the work area.

Here's the CORBA registration link:
http://www.meetup.com/CORBAmtb/events/204494632/

WEEKEND RIDES

Saturday, October 4: Backbone @ Kanan w/ Two Out & Backs to Zuma Ridge & Corral Cyn (Int & Adv).   This ride is a combination of two out & back rides that is on 100% singletrack and is 200% fun. This ride will have both an advanced and intermediate option. The advanced group will start at the posted ride time and ride the 1st out & back section of the Backbone Trail over to the Zuma Ridge Motorway. This section is approximately 5 miles roundtrip with 600' of climbing. Then we'll pick up the intermediate riders back at the Kanan parking lot 1 hour later and do the 2nd out & back over to the parking area at the top of Corral Canyon. This section is approximately 14 miles roundtrip with 2600' of climbing. Backbone has a lot of ups and downs and is quite technical in some sections. The posted meeting/ride time and ride rating are for the advanced ride. The meeting time for the intermediate ride is 1 hour later than the posted time and the ride rating is E4:T4. The meeting spot for both rides is on Kanan. Meet at 7:45 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E5, Technical Rating = T4, 19 Miles and 3200 Feet of Climbing , About 4.5 Hours
, Ride Scheduler: Paul

Directions:   Take the 101 Freeway to the Kanan exit in Agoura Hills. At the end of the off-ramp proceed south toward the ocean. Take Kanan for several miles until you reach the third tunnel (don't forget to count them). Park in the paved parking area just before the tunnel. If you are coming from PCH then look for the parking area just after the first tunnel on the left.

Sunday, October 5: Grasslands - Short Bulldog Loop.   We’ll bike over to Malibu Creek State Park via the Grasslands trail. Once inside the park we’ll proceed along the main fireroad, which passes through a fairly short but technical rocky streambed. After a short stop at the M*A*S*H site we’ll tackle the first 1.25 miles of Bulldog. After the steep but fairly short climb up Bulldog we’ll cut off onto Lookout Fireroad that will bring us down to a paved road in the Malibu Lake area. Then we’ll take Crags Road to a back entrance of the park and pedal back to the cars via the same path as before. Meet at 8:30 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E3, Technical Rating = T3, 14 Miles and 2100 Feet of Climbing , About 3.5 Hours
, Ride Scheduler: Tom

If you have a two way radio please bring it.

Directions:   Take the 101 Freeway to the Lost Hills Road exit in Calabasas. At the end of the off-ramp proceed south toward the ocean. Park in the lot for DeAnza Park located on the northwest corner of Lost Hills and Las Virgenes Roads.

Saturday, October 11: Santa Ana River Trail (South Fork to Mentone), The Whole Enchilada!.   This is truly an EPIC shuttle ride!!! It is one of the longest and best singletracks in this or any other region! This ride starts in the pines and ends in the desert! How cool is that?! To begin, we'll shuttle up to the South Fork Campgroup and start our adventure there. Along the way we'll be crossing creeks, curving through pine groves, roller-coasting over knolls; dodging trees, manzanitas and rocks all while taking in some incredible vistas. By the time we reach the bottom you'll be dog-tired but you'll have a silly grin plastered on your face that stretches from ear to ear, guaranteed! Note: Sections of this trail are narrow and technical with some steep drop-offs. This ride is definitely not for the faint of heart or those with exposure issues! You MUST be an ADVANCED RIDER to partake and you MUST RSVP to be included in this ride and receive directions to the shuttle meeting spot! Meet at 8:15 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E5, Technical Rating = T5, 35 Miles and 3800 Feet of Climbing , About 6 Hours
, Ride Scheduler: Tamara

Saturday, October 11: Cheeseboro for Beginners.   We'll be riding Cheeseboro, as it is an ideal place for a beginner's ride. Just watch out for the big rock with poison oak!! We'll ride 'til we drop, (to Shepherd's Flat) and turn around and ride back. I guarantee it will be a fun ride. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

Sunday, October 12: Brown Mountain Summit and El Preito.   We begin in Hahamonga Watershed Park at the base of Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Alta Dena, heading south/east across Devil's Gate Dam to a northbound trail head on the east side of the watershed. We join the Gabrielino Trail via the JPL employee parking lot, ascend the Fern Truck Trail to the Brown Mountain Saddle, catch our breath, then summit Brown Mountain. After another respite we enjoy down-hill action back to the Saddle. ADVANCED RIDERS may opt for a run down the HIGHLY TECHNICAL El Prieto Trail, while the rest of the group descends Fern Truck Trail. Both routes lead back to the junction of the Gabrielino Trail. Once regrouped we head back to Hahamonga Watershed Park via trails on the west side of the watershed, including a one-quarter mile stretch of tricky gravel. THE EL PRIETO TRAIL IS OPTIONAL ON THIS RIDE, AND CARRIES A T RATING OF 4.0. IT REQUIRES GREAT SKILL AND CONTROL. Meet at 8:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

Make a left at the second light, Foothill Boulevard, heading east. Cross the intersection at Oak Grove Drive about 3/4 of a mile later, and head straight into the the park. Follow the unnamed road about 500 feet and take the first left turn, followed by a quick right at the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. An ample parking lot is on your right, near the soccer & baseball fields, just before the watershed. If that lot is full, use overflow parking on the dirt lot in the watershed. Rides start & end at the paved lot.

Sunday, October 12: Reseda to the Foundation.   From the Reseda parking area we will take the singletrack connector up to dirt Mullholland, then take Temescal to the Hub. From the Hub its an easy, fairly flat trip out to the Foundation, with it's spectacular view in all directions. This is our turnaround point, from here we'll retrace our route back to the parking lot at Reseda. Meet at 8:30 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E2, Technical Rating = T2, 9 Miles and 1200 Feet of Climbing , About 2.5 Hours
, Ride Scheduler: Kevin

Directions:   Take the 101 Fwy to the Reseda Blvd exit in Tarzana. At the end of the off-ramp proceed south (towards the ocean). Continue up Reseda; pass the Caballero trail, up through/past the opening in the fence up to the paid parking area. Park just before the "white line" as the paid parking starts just beyond that white line. At the end of the ride, when leaving the parking area, be sure to stop at the photo enforced stop sign.

Sunday, October 19: Triunfo Canyon Trail and COSCA .   In the fall of 2005, the hard working trail builders rerouted the single track leading from Triunfo Park to the east COSCA area. It's much improved. We will start at Truinfo Park and climb up into the east COSCA area and work our way up to a challenging descent (most of us will walk this part). Then will have some fun single track out to where we can see Lake Sherwood. Then we head south to the main fire road and climb the Vista Loop Trail to the single track leading down to the base of Space Mountain. It’s down the fun Whoop de Doos and then up through Little Sherwood Forest and then back track to the Triunfo Canyon Trail singletrack via the Los Robles East fireroad. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E3.5, Technical Rating = T4, About 3 Hours
, Ride Scheduler: Randy

Directions:   Exit the 101 Freeway going south on Westlake Blvd. Go south for about a mile and then turn west (right) on Triunfo Canyon Road. This will lead you to Triunfo Park. Turn left onto Tamarack St and turn into the second parking lot on the left. We start at the far west end of the park.

Saturday, October 25: ChinaBurgers.   We will begin with an easy climb with a couple technical bits up the Sulphur Springs trail to Shepherd’s Flat. Then we head west on the Palo Comado connector singletrack that leads to the Palo Comado fireroad. We’ll continue up this rather steep fireroad for approximately a mile until we come to the top of China Flats. The loop ride around the top of China Flats is one of the most fun singletracks around. We’ll then retrace our tracks back down for some rolling good times to the cars. Meet at 8:30 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E3.0, Technical Rating = T2.5, 15 Miles and 1500 Feet of Climbing , About 3.5 Hours
, Ride Scheduler: Kevin

The elevation gain on this ride knocks it into the parameters of an intermediate ride, but I intend to lead this at a pace for strong beginners looking to expand their horizons, with frequent regroupings.

Directions:   Take the 101 Freeway to the Chesebro exit in Agoura. Head north and make a right on Chesebro Road. Follow the narrow road one-mile and turn right at the park entrance. Continue up the paved road 1/4 mile to the top parking lot.

Saturday, October 25: Strawberry Peak Loop from Switzers.   This fantastic ride starts with a steep 1/2 mile road climb out of Switzers. Then it's a 3 mile fireroad climb up Josephine Road. At the top of the fireroad we’ll ride around Strawberry Peak on a newly rebuilt singletrack that clings to the mountainside. The trail has some exposure, although not too technical, some may want to walk a section or two. After 2 miles of contouring, there is a fun, swooping descent before the trail climbs another 2 miles up a switchback singletrack. Then it’s time to hang on for the descent of your life; with lots of exposure, the singletrack curves in and out with views of the highway way, way below you. Eventually the trail heads away from the cliffs and you can let go of the brakes and enjoy some whoop-de-doo jumps down to the road. The last 5 miles follows the upper section of the Gabrielino Trail where exposure is no longer a factor. This section has lots of fun corners and rocky sections to enjoy before ending at Switzers Picnic Area.   Please RSVP if you plan to ride. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E4, Technical Rating = T5, 14 Miles and 3000 Feet of Climbing , About 4 Hours
, Ride Scheduler: Tamara

Directions:   From the intersection of I-210 and CA2 in La Canada, take CA2 (Angeles Crest Highway) north into Angeles National Forest. After 9 miles of twisting roads, you'll reach the intersection with Angeles Forest Highway. Once you pass Angeles Forest Highway and Clear Creek Station the entrance to Switzers picnic area will be on your right in less than a mile. Meet in the lower parking lot. Note: A National Forrest Adventure Pass is required to park here. You can get one at the Clear Creek Station at the intersection of Angeles Crest Highway and Angeles Forest Highway.

Sunday, October 26: Sycamore Canyon/Backbone/Guadelasca.   We begin with the connector trail that leads to Big Sycamore Canyon Road. We’ll descend down into the canyon a few miles and down Sin Nombre and Two Foxes. Then it’s another climb up to the top via the Backbone singletrack. We’ll ride the fireroad over to Guadalasca and enjoy another great decent. Then it’s back up the main trail to the dreaded asphalt hill. From the top it’s just a short ride back to the cars. Meet at 8:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E3.5, Technical Rating = T3.5, 20 Miles and 2600 Feet of Climbing , About 3.5 Hours
