March 2013
During the rainy winter months, if the ground is wet, contact the ride leader on the morning of the ride to see if it's been relocated to a drier trail. There may also be a notice on the web site (http://www.nrmbc.org), or the NRMB egroup, but don't rely on this if there is not a comment.

NEWS FOR EVERYONE
Saturday, March 2: 25th Anniversary Picnic.
Come join us to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the NRMB. It was back in March of 1988 when we had our first ride. Our ride on March 2nd will retrace the first ride from 25 years ago. We started with a few riders and slowly they dropped out leaving only Mike Miskinis and Randy Rogers to make it all the way to North Ranch (our namesake).
After the ride we will meet up at the beautiful Oak Canyon Community Park. We will have a picnic and see the debut of the movie History of the NRMB, a DVD showing 25 years of photos.
Tell all your friends whoever rode with the NRMB be it hundreds of times or only once. Even if that one time was 25 years ago, come out and ride as far as you like. If you can only do a small part of the ride or can't ride at all, still come out for the picnic. Even 88 year old Joe Dillman, a founding member will be there! Come celebrate with the largest oldest and best mountain bike club in California.
The picnic at the park should start around 12:30pm. Following are the directions to only the picnic (this is not where the ride begins...don't show up here to start the ride...the ride starts at Cheeseboro!)
Directions: From the 101 Fwy and exit at Kanan Rd and turn North (away from the ocean). Proceed approx 2.7 miles and turn right on Hollytree Drive. Immediately turn left into Oak Canyon Community Park. Don't park in the first lot which is immediately to your left (that is the duck pond), drive up a bit and park in the next parking lot on your left near the bathrooms.

This will be a bit of a roller-coaster of a ride along trails that go up and down the hills in the open spaces of Newbury Park and Dos Vientos. None of the hills are long grinds but the frequent changes in pace should keep you on your toes! Along the way we'll see the twin ponds, some trails the equestrians would like to keep to themselves, and one trail that almost nobody knows about. We'll also see lots of houses below us with people parked on their sofas watching TV while we're having fun on our bikes! Most of our route will be on singletrack (including one that was built in the spring of 2011 that allows us to connect this all together), with some fireroad and a block or two on pavement a few times to connect it all up. Saturday, April 20: Sycamore Canyon Trail Days, BBQ & Camping 2011.
Once a year we have an opportunity to work on the trails and then BBQ and camp at Danielson Ranch in Sycamore Canyon. It is opened annually for the Santa Monica Trail Days! This is a unique opportunity to work on the trails that we enjoy so much in Sycamore Canyon followed by a BBQ, prizes, and camping on Friday and/or Saturday night. Last year a bunch of us worked on the trails, took in the BBQ, etc. and than camped in the quiet heart of the canyon. The drawing was fabulous, everyone won at least one prize and there was lots of cool stuff! Enjoying a cold beer after the trail work under the sycamore and oak trees with the breeze blowing through the canyon while the BBQ is cooking… what a treat! This is hands down the best day to get in your trail maintenance work! Camping is optional, you may leave with the escort after the BBQ. Following is the info from the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council that hosts the event.
TRAIL DAYS is a weekend for individuals and groups to build new trails and restore old ones. Partners with California State Parks include Concerned Off Road Bicyclist Assn.
